Reading for Summer

Reading for Summer

The summer is always a good time to read. There is nothing better than grabbing a couple of books in your favorite genre and head to the beach. Reading for the Summer is very good for the kiddos too. I’m sure their next grade teacher has a summer reading list already posted. The local libraries always seem to have some great activities for all ages during the summer. And the eReaders and apps on our smartphones allow us to take our literature with us wherever we go. What are you reading this summer?

If you have troublesome teens I have several books I have published that might keep them busy this summer. One of those is “Yearning For the Unattainable“. It is an interesting southern story of a teenage girl and her family relocating to a small Georgia town where they encounter, a crotchety old aunt, new friends from the high school, and a ghost hanging out in the attic. Check out the video at the bottom. I am reading the first chapter!

Don’t Forget to Write Review of What You Read

Another good place to visit is Goodreads. Check out your favorite authors, “To Read” listing of books. You might find something great to add to your own listing. Get your friends and family to start lists of their own. Reading is such a great pastime. Of course, listening to audiobooks is pretty fun too. You can put on your headphones and relax in a beach chair with nobody knowing what you are listening to. Quite a few of my friends and family listen to me while driving in their car. This is so nice on those long commutes or on the way to a family vacay.

Summertime activities can be a simple as having your children/grandchildren read a chapter out loud.  Why not act out a few scenes from their favorite stories or even create a play? The kids will have fun, they will learn something new, and they will be practicing their reading skills. Yes, that is a little sneaky but as parents and/or grandparents we have to get those little guys reading and reading well quickly. What are you and your family reading this summer?
