Trying Out the Hardback Service on Amazon

When Amazon’s KDP announced that it was going to begin offering their indie authors the choice of a hardback edition of their books I was amazed. Especially in light of all that is happening in the world lately. You know with all the perceived shortages and delayed delivery schedules and such. But, what the heck, why not give it a try. It only costs me the price of the reformatting of the books and covers. Which, thankfully, my friend, Jolene of the newly formed Southern Dragon Publishing service does at a very reasonable rate. She also threw in 5 copies of the 3D Bookcovers, Hardback edition for my blog and social media posts. (a.k.a. marketing stuff).

We are all still waiting to see if Amazon can change their selling page book covers to reflect the different pictures of hardback, paperback, and ebook editions. To me and a lot of other people that would be a pretty cool feature but I am just waiting on getting the front and back covers on that page within the 30 day period they say it will take to propagate all the way through all of the systems.

The books themselves are going to cost the authors at least an additional $5 per copy. They are not offering the dust jackets yet or most likely never. The imprint will be right on the book. As soon as I can order some copies I will show you what they look like and how long it took to receive them. We are all being told to encourage our readers to order in the month of October or at least by the very first week in November to ensure the timely delivery of any Christmas presents you might want to obtain.

I am doing the 6×9′, white paper, black and white inside, and glossy cover thing for each of them. The two children’s books do not qualify as you have to have at least 75 pages in order to do the hardback edition. That is a bummer but I can see why, I guess, too cost-prohibitive right now. Will have another post next week on a couple of more YA books on my backlist that I will have published by then.

If you have any questions for me about my books, self-publishing, or writing please use my CONTACT form and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Have a great day!
